More than thirty years after the infamous Highway Sheila murders terrorized Durban, Detective Verma has spent his career trying to bury the memories of the case that defined his life. In 1993, he arrested his own police partner, Jacob Alonzo, for the brutal murders of young women along Higginson Highway, bringing an end to a reign of terror that left the city traumatized. Although the public believes the killer was brought to justice, Verma has never been able to silence the questions that continue to haunt him.

When a series of women begin disappearing under eerily similar circumstances, Durban is once again gripped by fear. The new killer leaves behind cryptic riddles addressed personally to Verma, taunting him with details that only someone connected to the original investigation could possibly know. As the media resurrects the legend of Highway Sheila, Verma realizes he is no longer chasing a copycat—he is being lured into a deadly game that reaches back to the darkest chapter of his past.
